Rotary Club of Wauchope Youth Services
Rotary’s Youth Programs are developing the next generation of leaders, providing funding to make the world a better place and make peace a priority. Rotary recognises the importance of empowering young people to be the leader of business and community. They are our future.
The Rotary Club of Wauchope provides sponsorship for the following programs for youth:
RYLA: The club is pleased to sponsor young adults 18 -27 years to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards - a one-week leadership training seminar.
NYSF: The National Youth Science Forum has been operating for over 30 years and its aim is to encourage young Australians to be the next generation of leading scientists, engineers and mathematics experts supporting a sustainable future for our nation. Students moving into Year 12 who wish to follow careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are introduced to research and researchers and encouraged to achieve excellence in their undertakings by helping to develop their communication and interpersonal skills.
The RYDA road safety education program is delivered to local High School students. The program is presented to 16-18 year old students who are approaching that crucial time in their lives where they start to drive independently or are travelling as passengers of novice drivers.
Rotary Youth Exchange: Rotary Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to experience people and other cultures and promote international understanding and peace. It's purpose is to build bridges of friendship and understanding among people of the world. We accomplish this by providing opportunities for high school students to live for a year in a foreign country and learn to assimilate into the country’s culture and language.
MUNA is the Model United Nations Assembly for students in years 10-11Senior high school students develop an awareness of the United Nations and the countries they represent at a simulated UN Assembly. The event provides an excellent forum for students to develop and practice their public speaking skills whilst debating on topical world issues.
MUNA has been held in many Rotary Districts around Australia since 1980. The team that places first in MUNA in our district is invited to compete at the Australian National MUNA at the Old Parliament House in Canberra. The first National MUNA took place in August 1997. The United Nations continues to give enthusiastic support for the ongoing growth of this worthwhile project for youth.

Rotary Vocational Services
Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society.

The Object of Rotary is a philosophical statement of Rotary’s purpose and the responsibilities of Rotarians. The concept of vocational service is rooted in the Second Object, which calls on Rotarians to “encourage and foster”:
-
- High ethical standards in business and professions
- The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations
- The dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society
To support that object we hold a Pride of Workmanship Award each year to recognise those in our community who do an outstanding job.
We also visit local businesses on a regular basis to learn about what is happening in our local area and the exceptional people doing business here.
